An Interview with Khaled Sabawi, Founder & CEO of Open Screenplay

June 11, 2020

Last month Layla announced a new partnership with Open Screenplay --a Canadian organization that empowers writers from around the world to write screenplays as compelling as the world we live in-- to launch a short screenplay writing contest on the topic of mental health.

This partnership was born of a shared appreciation between Layla and Open Screenplay of the potential power of storytelling in spreading awareness of mental health issues in Canada and around the world. Through storytelling it is possible to build an understanding deeper than that delivered by simple facts. Storytelling engages the audience and delivers meaning that resonates through shared experience and human understanding.

As such, writers interested in participating in the contest have been invited to write an original screenplay about mental health in a way that’s meaningful to them. Participants will have the chance to win a cash prize as well as a chance to have their screenplay produced. Contest submissions are being accepted until June 21st, 2020.

In this interview style video, Khaled Sabawi, Founder and CEO of Open Screenplay discusses why Open Screenplay was founded, why they’ve chosen to launch a contest on the topic of mental health and more.
