Anxiety

Did you know that anxiety is the most common of all mental health challenges in Canada? Health Canada estimates that one in ten Canadians struggle with anxiety disorders. Every one of us may feel anxious at certain times, and that is part of normal life and functioning. This can be related to work stress, life changes, family challenges or other situation.
However, feelings of worry, stress, or fear can intensify, last a long time, and negatively impact our lives. In such cases, you may benefit from therapy.

Types of Anxiety Disorders

  • Generalized Anxiety Disorder a person worries excessively about everyday situations.
  • Panic Disorder - some people suffer from repeated panic attacks, surges in fear and discomfort that can last between a few minutes to an hour and occur suddenly. Panic attacks may include accelerated heart rate, sweating, shaking, shortness of breath or choking, chest pain, numbness, fear, a sense of detachment, or other symptoms.
  • Other types of anxiety include Phobias, Social Phobias, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD).
